Dart Harbour take over Distin Mooring Business
We are pleased to announce that on Friday 19th July, Dart Harbour bought the moorings previously operated by Distin & Distin Boatyard and Moorings. These moorings have been operated by the Distin family for many years, so when we were told by Mr Distin that he wanted to sell them, we were keen to take them over because we want to keep them locally owned and operated by marine professionals, and to ensure that they continued to be great value moorings for a wide variety of boats.
Adding these moorings to our portfolio will mean that their mooring fees will be reinvested in the Dart – as a trust port every penny we earn is used to operate, maintain and improve the harbour.
As these 80 trot and running moorings are tightly intermingled with our existing moorings – at Dartmouth, Kingswear and Noss, there is also a strategic advantage to operating them in-house, as we will have the ability to make changes as needed to better serve our customers and to manage the river in line with the port masterplan we are developing.
There will be minimal impact to existing berth holders – their mooring fees for this season will still cover them to the end of March, and going forward price changes will be minimal. They will now be covered by our moorings policy. We have written individually to all berth holders on these moorings to explain this. These moorings will now be allocated using our waiting list, which will see some customers getting a mooring a little earlier than they otherwise may have done.
Mr Distin would like to thank all of his customers for their support over the years and is delighted that Dart Harbour will be taking care of them moving forward. Please note that the Distin Boatyard is unaffected by this sale, and will continue trading as normal.
Please contact the harbour office with any queries.
