LNTM 14-24 – South Embankment Swim Zone

All mariners are advised:

Following extensive consultation, we will shortly be installing an improved swim zone at the yacht club pontoon on South Embankment, as per the below diagram.

When the buoyed area from the middle of the steps outside the harbour office, to the yacht club pontoon is in place, access within is prohibited for vessels of any type (including leisure and commercial vessels,  powered craft, dinghies, kayaks, paddleboards etc), in order to provide a safe area for swimming.

Swimmers wanting to bathe in the centre of Dartmouth are asked to use the swim zone, and avoid the busy commercial quays and pontoons used for vessel mooring. There is no restriction on swimming with care in other areas of the Dart.  Swimmers must not jump over the steps, and should check tides, weather and water quality before swimming – all information is available on our website.  Parents should not allow their children to swim without supervision – this area does not have a lifeguard.

There will be a short period of minor disruption whilst the pontoon is modified.  All vessels are asked to follow directions of harbour staff during this period.  In addition there will be minor work inside of Town Jetty as a new pontoon is installed to the north of the bridge, to improve disabled access to the water.
